Learning Opportunities at HYC

Throughout the year HYC offers a wide variety of on-the-water training as well as seminars conducted by experienced sailors and instructors. Experts from outside the club provide additional knowledge and insight.

Racing Instruction Programs

Racing Rules of Sailing seminar – designed for beginning sailors and others new Racing. January.

Introduction to Race Committee – For members who want to help with race committee work. Classroom and on-the-water orientation. January.

Mark Set - On-the-water orientation for members who will man the mark set boat.
US Sailing periodically holds race management seminars at HYC, giving our members an opportunity to maintain or improve their skills as PRO, judge, etc.

Big Boat Seminar for Women – Presented each Spring for women of the club who want to learn more about sailing and crewing on boats 30ft. or more in length. Seminar and on-the-water.

Harvest Moon Regatta Seminar – For HYC skippers to help them prepare and do well. August.

Marlinspike and Martinis – Annual seminar focused on marlinspike skills and martini lore.
