Sailing Camps
Ragnot Summer Sailing Camps offer week-long, all-day programs to teach youths ages 6-18 to sail, sail better, and learn to race. Houston Yacht Club's Ragnot summer youth program is in its 67th year and offers dinghy and keelboat training by US Sailing certified instructors.
We offer classes for first-time beginners, returning sailors, and advanced racers.
Ages are 6 to 18.
You do not need to be a Member of the Houston Yacht Club to attend summer camp (except the Ragnot Overnight Camp starting on June 10th).
Camps run Monday through Friday 9am to 4:30pm. A typical day begins with a warm-up activity followed by a morning chalk-talk and then on-the-water drills. The kids sail small dingeys by themselves or with a partner while coaches instruct from small powerboats. We come in for lunch around 12:30pm and the kids enjoy free time in the pool until we go out for the afternoon sail which typically will be more centered on fun and games. Near the end of the week, we will get the kids out with instructors on larger keelboats. By the end of the week, most kids are able to sail by themselves on all wind angles and in most conditions. Kids who already have the basics down will be in a group focused on refining sailing skills and an introduction to racing.
