If you have a sense of adventure, are at all competitive, or just want to feel safer on the water, you should check out the Windward Bound women’s sailing camp at HYC.

Windward Bound Sailing Camp, an annual, 3-day overnight camp exclusively for adult women, is an opportunity to learn, expand, and enhance your knowledge and skills in sailing.

Campers are divided into small groups by skill level for instruction by experienced women sailors. Small groups allow individualized attention. Students enjoy lots of time on the water in a wide variety of sailboats including Sunfish, 420s, Ensigns, J22s, J24s and Flying Scots.

Instructors are accomplished women sailors with years of experience in cruising and racing, and in teaching other women to sail in a supportive, low-stress environment.

Many campers are complete beginners, so don’t let your lack of sailing knowledge hold you back from signing up. Campers range from knowing nothing to understanding the basics and looking to improve their skills, to those that own a boat and have skippered some but are wanting to learn more about racing. The curriculum is designed to cover the full range of traditional sailing basics to applied sailing skills.

Windward Bound camp also offers a fun environment with like-minded women. Campers stay in hotel rooms at the Houston Yacht Club or at HYC members' houses which along with all of the shared meals and social activities promotes great camaraderie among the women.

Sailing is a life sport that can be enjoyed at a competitive level or a peaceful, cruising with friends and family level. Let Windward Bound camp build your confidence to be out on the water and keep sailing.
